It was almost too easy to get to New Bern…if you left at 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. However, if you left as late as 10:30 a.m. like Fletcher Tukes, it was a longer trip caused by a couple of different construction work delays. But for everyone, the early light rain in Gaithersburg let up as we made our way south, swirls of blue soon appeared between the diminishing cloud cover, and the mild temperature made it feel like September, rather than the beginning of the second week of November.
It’s always a fun “homecoming” as GPC mission trippers meet up again with our extended PDA Mission Trip family. Plus, we are very happy to welcome some “first-timers” on this trip.
This is potluck night; no time for our fabulous cooks to put together their usual fantastic spread. Plus, they had been busy decorating our dining hall tables in a most festive fall motif.
We were all asked to bring side dishes to share with rotisserie chicken that was being provided. Guess how many people brought left-over Halloween candy? Because nothing says appropriate chicken side dish, like chocolate! Just kidding. While there is an abundance of candy, we also had many healthy sides. And once you’ve had your protein, vegetables, and fruit…no one need feel guilty about two passes at the well-stocked dessert table with a Kit Kat bar chaser or two. (Remember, this year’s treats are smaller than in years past).
We start our week with an upbeat sugar rush. Everyone is excited to get to work tomorrow, and we can’t wait to share our adventures with you, our faithful readers. We will need and feel your prayers, so please put that at the top of your daily To-Do List all this week!
